PVP Tournaments

Should there be pvp tournaments ?

It came to my mind that it would be really fun to have pvp tournaments with pay out prizes or just regular prizes it doesn't matter. It would work out with certain rules that have to be followed and not broken or an automatic forfeit. It would vary between 1v1s 2v2s and 3v3s.. idk let me know what you guys think. People would feel to work more on getting better gear just to win, lol idk this would be really awesome.

I like the idea!
But i feel that a class like the Ex-Ranger would have an unfair advantage here..
Perhaps make it class-based? For example knight vs knight?
Curious to see how others feel about it.

Rules can apply with ex-rangers preventing them from using unfair tactics and i really like the idea of the same class vs the other but... there are not too many good knights in the game, maybe TKs but not RKs.

I like the idea of this, but like stated above many classes have unfair advantages. Maybe set base stats for each class and have them dual with the reduced stats. This way it is purely the skill at that class and not haveing better gear or weps.

What would be more interesting and really show who knows there classes is to require pvp parties one of each class...say your choice of one of the 5 major classes (lumping the exrogues in the the rogues and the arch mages in with the mages, choose one of the 4) Could do it sort of like the world tournaments they use to have. They would get a set level character and a box of liege armor set with some prs +28 and a stock weapon with a prs +28 with your choice in a chaos jewel only on weapon and shirt and a choice of some stock accessories that are available in game...Hopefully there are enough players in the game for that...

That depends on how you set up the tournament. Ex-Ranger requires a very specific setup to work to its' maximum potential, so rules that for example limits the usage of items/potions and restrict players to only using buffs that their own class could learn would severely hamper it. Anyone who has attempted to play Ex-Ranger in the arena without haste would agree that just taking that buff away from them makes them lose much of their potency. Of course, the other end of that spectrum also means that the opposing player isn't allowed to True Sight said Ex-Ranger so...

Your other suggestion, that we keep it class-based, I don't think would work too well either. For one, I don't think that there are enough players currently in the game to host a tournament line for every single class. The Sorcerer line would consist of 2 matches tops, and the Rogue/Ex-Rogue line would go on for days. Aside from that, with the current PvP Balance, I think it would be nigh impossible for certain classes to kill another of their own class. Say for example that we put two Clerics against each other. They would literally never be able to kill each other. The same goes for Templar Knights. Any TK that have fought one of their own in the arena 1 on 1 knows that it is literally impossible for them to kill each other, especially if we are limiting the use of items and buffs that don't belong to your own class.

On top of that, we have to keep in mind that the arena isn't even the be all end all of PvP in this game. Both arena (both Juno and Dratan) as far as I know have a Defense cap. That why certain players, like myself, are harder to face during for example a siege than in the arena, because during a siege all of our 32k Defense actually counts for something. So should a hypothetical tournament be held with a defense cap as well? And if so, then how is that fair to the classes that rely on their high defense to survive? I have tested this cap back when my Archmage was lvl 130 and it took the same amount of damage from a hit from my Ex-Ranger as my lvl 185 Templar Knight did, and my TK had 30k more Defense than it.

I'm not nescesarily against the idea of a tournament, I just don't think that it is possible the the game in the state as it is.

We are busy cooking up some plans for an idea. As soon as we have all the details hashed out we will let you all know about it.
